Custom Staircase Guard Rails0

Custom staircase handrailsSteptoe and Wife (don’t ask me) has a new crop of beautiful custom handrails designed for luxury homes, offices and hotels. When I was at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, they had railings similar to the ones pictured.

Obviously these are beautiful and functional hand rails. These particular guard rails are from the Chanel Boutique in Toronto, Ontario.

These rails are elegant and completely custom. They were designer created and completely installed using fabricated parts, nothing stock was used at the Chanel Boutique.

The design speaks for itself and the quality is spoken for by Steptoe’s many clients.

As Steptoe says, they are “100 years behind the times”, in terms of quality and design.

Silkweave Bathroom Faucet by Kohler0

Silkweave faucet by Kohler

When I first saw this faucet I was instantly drawn to it. The picture shows perfectly the unique design. Not only is this a single handle faucet (I love the single handle) but also the water runs down the faucet like a waterfall.

Kohler, on their website, says, “Drawing inspiration from Japanese silk-screened fabrics, Silkweave crafts an intricate geometric pattern with a delicate contrast of Tea Greenâ„¢, blue and White, highlighted with fine platinum threads.”

Definitely an intricate geometric pattern, and a truly remarkable faucet!

Add an Island To Your Kitchen0

DoItYourself has a great article on adding an island to your existing kitchen.

One of the most important considerations when adding an island is the space between where the island will be, and the existing counters and cabinets in the kitchen. You don’t want to have too little space.

Most importantly, there should be sufficient space between the island and other work surfaces to allow for opening cabinet and appliance doors, and for two people to work without jostling one another.

Another common mistake is to not provide an additional light above the island. This is crucial to the functionality of the island. Without adequate lighting, you will not want toKitchen Island use your island.

Also keep in mind what purpose the island will serve. Will a cooktop stove be on it? Microwave oven? Just space for slicing and dicing? Each design will need it’s own considerations like power outlets, cutting boards and gas for a gas burning stove.

Map out a plan for how you want your island before you begin the project and you’ll be happy with the results!
